You Have to Do It
Here's my recent STRONG Teacher Reflection.
I’ve settled on a weekly reflection routine for the moment. At the beginning of the week, I start a note in Notion with the template and then revisit it daily to add and update. Here’s the most recent entry.
Successes/Stories
- Using IXL to kick off a unit after introducing the learning target worked out well.
- Enjoyed my students’ reactions when I tried to read the new learning target like a surfer dude.
- We had a short week, and I was a little stressed that I might not get conferences scheduled and the kids prepared for their SLCs, but it worked out.
Thoughts and Takeaways
- You don’t have to be good at something to do it, but if you want to be good at it, you have to do it.
- If everyone is happy with you, you must be doing something wrong.
Recovery and Renewal
- Attempted to schedule a Chiropractor appointment.
- I had an internal battle about whether or not to go to the weight room. For a change, the weight room won.
- I’ve been able to take a few more mindful breathing breaks throughout the school day.
- A good week of sleep.
Optimize
- “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”—Alvin Toffler
- I intend to continue lifting weights as a form of stress relief and personal development.
- Don't let the old in.
Next Actions
- Revise the waves unit to reflect the new textbook.
- Complete scheduling for student-led conferences.
- Prepare the Waves PHET activity for science.
- Help students prepare for student-led conferences.
Gratitude
- I have a good group of students this year overall.
- Proud of my kids.
- The spring thaw.
- Sleep.
