As we finish up another great year of teaching and learning, I'm happy to share Why Edify's most popular articles from 2024. These articles helped many teachers by sharing useful tips, new teaching ideas, and ways to handle today's classroom challenges. Here are the top ten articles that got teachers talking this year.

  1. The Impact of Cell Phone Use on Students in the Classroom: Negative Effects, Resources, and Management Solutions - This topic is hands down the most popular, which means that it's an issue that all schools and educators are still addressing. I think we'll find that the hyperconnectivity that cell phones offer isn't a good fit for the classroom.
  2. Grudge Ball Test Review Classroom Game - I knew this post would eventually take off. This intense review game is low-tech and high engagement.
  3. The Benefits of Quizizz: A Powerful Tool for Formative Assessments in the Classroom - This year, Quizizz added some AI features that make it even more useful for educators. I highly recommend checking it out.
  4. Using Proficiency Scales to Track Student Learning - Here is how I use proficiency scales with my middle school science classes. You'll also find downloadable copies of each scale.
  5. The Importance of Service Learning: Benefits, Ideas, and Resources for Students and Schools - When students participate in service learning, they gain valuable life experience while making a positive impact.
  6. What's a Golden Line - This simple idea is becoming quite popular. Golden Lines are sentences that "speak" to you while you read.
  7. 12 Must-Read Books for Teachers' Professional & Personal Development This Summer - Although summer is often the best time for educators to do their serious reading, these books are beneficial all year round.
  8. Using Interactive Notebooks - This topic was one of the most popular, so I am including a link to all of the interactive notebook resources.
  9. Sphero Battle Bots Stem Challenge - If you can purchase the robots, you won't regret trying this with your students. In this STEM activity, students create a Sphero Battle Bot. The Sphero is the engine that drives the Battle Bot. Here are the directions and the supplies needed to build the Battle Bots and run the battle.
  10. The Power of Teacher Gratitude: How Daily Appreciation Practices Transform Education and Well-being - Teaching is demanding. Between lesson planning, grading, and managing classrooms, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. However, practicing gratitude can be a powerful antidote to stress and burnout.

If you made it to the end of the list, I invite you to join The Why Edify Community. I share resources and ideas each week that help teachers become happier, healthier, and stronger.
