Goal Update August 2023
Here are the results or lack thereof from August 2023.
Hello friends.
Here are the results or lack thereof from August 2023. To many teachers, August can feel like one big Sunday. School is starting up and a more solid routine is on the way.
Wellness / Happiness
Here's a rundown of my home workout space.
Complete at least 720 minutes of exercise or more each month.
- I logged a total of 1,479 exercise minutes in August. I'm getting ready to ride the Door County Ride next weekend and have ramped up my cycling.
- I went cycling 12 times, walked 5 times, and completed 5 other workouts.
Here's a training log export from Strava.
Weigh in under 200 pounds and stay there.
- Some say ignorance is bliss. I say it's scary. I haven't stepped on the scale in some time and am a little afraid to. I know I've gone in the wrong direction because my school pants are a little tight. I'm ready to right the ship.
Complete at least 30 journal entries monthly using a paper journal and Day One App.
- One short this month with 29 journal entries.
Embrace a Mediterranean / Dash Diet.
- My eating habits are trending in the right direction. I'm going to start tracking my intake with My Fitness Pal again which will be helpful.
Education / Teaching Career
Read at least two education/teaching books this year and write a book summary blog post on each.
- I just started reading the Eduprotocols Field Guide which will be my second education/teaching book of the school year.
Share at least four education resources per month.
Here are the resources I put together last month. I missed my goal by one.
- Hybrid Bullet Journal Teacher Organization System: Combining Analog and Digital Tools for Efficient Teaching
- Back to School Resources for Teachers: Tips and Tools for a Successful Start
- Podcast Preparation - Teaching in the Digital Age: Enhancing Learning Through Project-Based Learning and Technology - A Teacher's Perspective
Add at least 12 new resources to my subscriber database.

- I just started reading The Practice: Shipping Creative Work by Seth Godin.
Complete at least three "thirty-day challenges" in 2023.
- I still have one challenge left.
Write in a paper journal at least three days per week.
- I've retired this goal, but starting a commonplace diary may revive my paper efforts.
Dreams, Retirement, and Money Stuff
Publish at least two newsletters per month.
- The streak is alive. Here is TGIF Teacher Newsletter Archive.
Create at least two YouTube videos per month - step out of your comfort zone.
- Done. I created three Shorts this past month.
Share at least two personal finance resources per month and apply what I learn.
- This goal has been retired.
